Long-Lasting Makeup Tips
HAPPY SUMMER EVERYBODY!
We’re celebrating summer with a guide on how to beat the heat (and humidity) for a long-lasting makeup look.
Step 1: Prepping the Skin
Prepping the skin before applying makeup by practicing your normal skin care routine is extremely important. And don’t forget sunscreen! My favorite facial sunscreen to use with makeup is SkinCeuticals Light Moisture UV Defense 50 SPF, which I let settle for about 10-15 minutes before applying makeup.
One of my favorite makeup looks for summer is a sun-kissed look. Here’s how I create that look:
First, I prime my skin with Too Faced Primed & Poreless. For me (because I suddenly have large pores), I tap the product where my large pores are and where makeup naturally tends to wear off, like the T-zone, around the nose, between the eyes, and the apples of my cheeks.
Next I mix Peach Deluxe and Rose Gold Gleam Face and Body Radiance together and apply the product like a moisturizer, using my hands. I’m going for full glow so I apply all over my face.
Step 2: Foundation & Concealer
Once the skin has been prepped, primed and gleamed, I apply my new favorite foundation, Makeup Forever HD Skin, using my MM01 Angled Face & Body Brush. The new formula is a game-changer and its flexibility is what allows it to last through high heat and humidity! I usually use about three pumps of foundation and a tiny dot of Peach Deluxe Gleam Face and Body Radiance, and seamlessly apply with the brush.
PRO TIP: Don’t forget your ears, neck, and chest when applying your foundation for the most even coverage possible!
Next, I apply concealer with my MM11 Angled Concealer Brush, airbrushing it out with my MM06 Fat Shader/Concealer Brush. My new favorite concealer is Makeup Forever’s Ultra Light Capturing Self Setting HD Concealer - it’s creamy, highly pigmented and great for long-lasting makeup.
After concealer, I use my MM02 Mini Dome Powder Brush with Charlotte Tilbury Charlotte’s Genius Magic Powder. I like to apply more of it first around my nose, then lightly under my eyes, then fluff around the rest of my face to lock everything in and make my makeup last longer. Powder is a must for long-wearing makeup.
Step 3: Eye Makeup, Blush & Contour
The most important tip about long-lasting eye makeup is to use gel eyeliner and waterproof mascara.
First, apply the gel with an eyeliner brush and set it with some eyeshadow. I like to use my MM13 Tapered Eyeliner Brush (coming soon) with the MAC Pro Longwear Fluidline gel liner. For mascara, my current fave is Cozzette Infinite Dimension Mascara. This mascara has tube technology and tubes around lashes separating and lengthening. It doesn’t move and is waterproof. I also love this mascara because it has two brushes one for top lashes and another mini one for lower lashes.
Once I’m done with my eye makeup, I go for a cream blush which is the perfect base for a powder blush and another amazing way to ensure long-lasting makeup!
I apply my favorite Senna Slipcover Cream to Powder Blush with my MM11 Angled Concealer Brush. I smooth out my concealer again with the MM06 Fat Shader/Concealer Brush, then with a powder puff I apply more loose powder. I then sweep some powder blush on top of the cream blush with my MM04 Diffuser Brush, finishing off the look by adding Gleam Radiant Dust in Deep Gold with the same MM04 Diffuser Brush.
Step 4: Body Makeup
Since it’s summer and time to show more skin, don’t forget body makeup!
For summer I mix the Rose Gold and Deep Gold Gleam Face & Body Radiance together for my legs and then use Rose Gold Gleam Face & Body Radiance for my arms and chest. To ensure the body makeup and face makeup is locked in, I spray my Super Lite Long Lasting Setting Spray in back and forth motions six inches from the skin.
PRO TIP: Spray a few extra coats of my Super Lite Long Lasting Setting Spray for body makeup especially on the backs of the legs to ensure extra long-lasting body makeup!
Now you’re ready to take on the heat and GLEAM like the summer sun!
