Incorporating Sunscreen with Makeup
Using sunscreen on your face and body every day is important, but looking GLEAM-alicious is important, too! As the days get longer and hotter, incorporating sunscreen with makeup as part of your routine is crucial to the health of your skin.
In fact, according to NY dermatologist Dr Bruce Katz, you should never rely on makeup for SPF as it’s notoriously unreliable in terms of the level of protection. Always add a high-SPF sunscreen.
Facial Sunscreen Under Makeup
The first step to applying sunscreen on the face under makeup is to complete your normal skincare routine. With each skincare step, wait a minute between each product to allow product time to absorb and dry properly. Cleanse your face, then apply any preferred toner and serum. I still apply my regular facial moisturizer, and then add a moisturizing high-quality sunscreen. I recommend using SkinCeuticals Light Moisture UV Defense 50 SPF. In my opinion, this is the best sunscreen for the face. I also do all skincare and sunscreen on the neck and chest, and apply sunscreen to the arms and tops of hands.
Next, apply my Gleam Face & Body Radiance as a primer for your makeup. You can also mix it with your normal foundation. Then, continue with your normal makeup routine (go for the waterproof products!).
Sunscreen Under Body Makeup
Don’t forget the rest of your body! Sunscreen should be applied to all exposed skin, especially if you plan to spend time at the beach or pool, where UV rays are reflected off the water.
When applying Gleam Face & Body Radiance to add a fabulous summer body glow, make sure to use it on clean, dry skin. If you’re heading to the beach or to a pool party, it’s important to apply Gleam after putting on your bathing suit, but before leaving the house.
Make sure to let the product set for a few minutes, then spray a waterproof and sweatproof sunscreen mist of your choice on top. My favorite sunscreen mist for the body is by Neutrogena or Coola.
PRO TIP: When you’re in the water, don’t rub your skin! When you get out, gently pat yourself dry with your towel instead of rubbing. This will help your protection AND your Gleam glow last as long as possible.
Happy gleamalicious sunbathing! ☀️
